Right I would like to start off by saying that I love android. It has actually worried apple and many android handsets are as good as if not better than the iphone. I have a HTC Hero and will defiantly consider the desire or a nexus one as my next phone however I am interested by this windows phone 7.
I was having a deep ponder about why android doesn’t seem to be grabbing as many people as it should. It hit me suddenly in my group of friends I am one of the more geeky of the crew. When I talk to them about android 2.1 or 2.2 and its features many of them just switch off and I can’t blame them. I couldn’t stand someone talking to me about flower arrangements for very long. For these people who are the majority of phone buyers a phone now is a fashion item or something to keep them occupied and connected to their friends. That is why the iphone is such a success, it is the ultimate designer item in the phone world. Every woman would have loius vitton handbag if she could afford it wouldn’t she?
So why is an android phone wrong for so many people? It’s not the way it works or features it lacks because it despite being so young is arguably the most feature rich platform for a phone.Well it is nothing that Google has intentionally done. It’s my fault and all the other people who push android phone so hard to their friends.Because I am maybe slightly geeky the android phone is also perceived as a geeky phone. Which is not what most people want to be (despite what we geeks may think)
Now of course there are exceptions. I have a friend who is getting a HTC desire and a friend that already has one. As Android moves into the hands of the “cool” people it will truly explode when people see how good it is and how sexy some of the handsets are.
